The Emancipation of Mimi
格莱美奖揭晓，今天的各大报纸基本上都有整版的相关报道。这当中自然少不了Mariah Carey。她一路都是年度最佳专辑和年度最佳单曲的大热门，最后却只拿到无关痛痒（当然，这只是相对而言）的三个小奖，实在令人意外。
我一向不看这类颁奖典礼的中文报道，因为我对那些明星的中文译名实在太陌生，再加上有些歌曲或专辑的名字是义译，通常看了以后都一头雾水，完全对不上号。幸好今天心血来潮破了例，不然就不会碰到这么好笑的事了。
在我随手翻开的某份报纸上，赫然写着“咪咪的解放”。毫无疑问，这是The Emancipation of Mimi的逐字翻译。我觉得难以置信，又看了一遍，还是“咪咪的解放”。
接着把手头其他的中文报纸看个遍，发现这个专辑名的翻译真是五花八门：米米的释放、真我释放、天后再临、我心无羁。无论哪个，都不及“咪咪的解放”搞笑。
能当上报纸的编辑，还能不知道“咪咪”的俚语含义？肯定是故意的。那我也就顺着这位编辑的意思送Mariah Carey一句祝福吧：今天不爽不要紧，咪咪迟早是要解放的！

“我心无羁”和 “咪咪的解放”。天哪，谁能想到这两个名字翻译出处一样？不过还是长了见识，原来MIMI=MC啊。

翻译中有种现象叫mistranslation－搞翻译研究的人认为这种现象很值得探讨。就像有人把GOD翻译成老天爷什么的。咪咪倒是符合现代读者猎奇的心理。

其实我觉得这个翻译很好。
“咪咪”用做nickname在中国也不奇怪的。比如赵薇的电视剧《老房有喜》里的一个配角就是叫“咪咪”。“咪咪”还更经常是用做小猫的nickname。
所以，我觉得“咪咪”联想到那些特别的意思，是不必要的。

OMG your blog is HALIRIOUS! I love it! The Chinese translation of ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ cracks me up soooooooo much!!
And I also just read your BBM entry…. I can’t believe that it has been banned… When are they gonna walk out of the conservative shadow?? And it’s so funny how your said that a monkey and a woman can fall in love, why can’t two men? LOL.

The only reason I watched the video of Don’t Forget about Us is Christian Monzon. Every time I see MC’s body, it reminds me of nothing but a real HOTDOG!!!
