Aubergine vs. Eggplant
这个东西英文叫什么？我会不假思索地回答eggplant。如果你也是，请看看这个讨论。
简单结论：英式英语用aubergine，美式英语用eggplant，还有些其他式样的英语用brinjal。
我以前从来没听说过aubergine这个词，不少回帖的人也一样：
Eggplant. Never even heard of “aubergine.”

其实美式英语和英式英语用词不同没啥可奇怪的，但在一般情况下，美国人虽然不用英国人的某些词，但听懂没有问题。反之亦然。像茄子这么极端、一方完全没听说过另一方所使用单词的情况，我是第一次碰到。
另外，回帖中除了明显的英美分化外，大部分其他英语国家的人都选了eggplant。在我的印象里，国内餐厅的英文菜谱上一向用的也都是eggplant。看来目前美式英语的市场占有率真是越来越高了…

Eggplant比较形象，看过一次就记住了呢。Aubergine我也是第一次见到-,-。
对了，这次的bonus video偶喜欢。PCD哦，还有Don’t Cha也很好听。

这个词我印象深刻，因为有一次我们球队聚餐，我们问一个美国朋友说茄子怎么说，他说eggplant，我当时想以前我查到的词不是这个，于是拿出本子给他看，说你们不说aubergine吗？他当时那种奇怪的表情，我至今都记得，他说从来不知道这个词，sigh

我知道荷兰是用aubergine的，开始我还以为是荷兰语呢。

在英国，超市里茄子只用aubergine一词。但你若说eggplant，大家也知道是啥。看起来英国人对美式英语的了解比美国人对英式英语了解得多哟——虽然英国人对美式英语颇多不屑。
