Brokeback

Brokeback Mountain

Sean has just come out. He’s been brokeback all his life.

That pink shirt looks hella brokeback to me. I don’t want it. Thank you very much.

The parodies typically use Gustavo Santaolalla’s sexy, mournful theme from “Brokeback Mountain,” together with the title cards from that movie’s trailer, to reframe clips from another movie. It works almost every time: a gay movie seems to emerge when scenes between male leads, or a male lead and a supporting actor, are slowed down, set to make-out music and bumpered by portentous cards that say things like, “A truth they couldn’t deny.” The editing, and the use of slow motion, do suggest that close-ups, especially viewed at length, are intrinsically erotic. All that these parodies need to do to set up the relationship is show one man’s face in protracted detail, and cut to the other man, who seems to watch with the same rapt attention that the viewer has been compelled to give by the slow-mo. A gay subtext suddenly seems plain as day.

给两个网址集中看这些搞笑短片: 1) Daily Sixer 2) YouTube(可能是先入为主,也可能是因为我喜欢Michael J. Fox,看了那么多parodies之后,还是觉得Brokeback to the Future最经典)

Talk to you soon. Love, Mandy P.S. BFF!!!

Dear Ennis, blah blah blah. Hope to see you soon. Love, Jack P.S. BFF!!!

Can you explain :“I wish I knew how to quit you.” I looked up in the dictionary for the definition of “quit”, however, I still cannot understand the meaning of the joke. Thanks.

    Yan:

It’s a line from the movie. Jack says to Ennis, “I wish I knew how to quit you.” It’s been featured in most BBM parodies to make two straight people seem gay, thus the joke.

    Yan:

ITA (I totally agree).

BFF - that was original! :-)

Talking about Brokeback, I just came across this video “Brokeback Hospital” and thought I’d share, since it’s just too darn funny. I am not sure if you watch HOUSE (if you haven’t, I highly recommend it.) For the uninitiated, the two doctors are not “together”, but there are tons of jokes about their “friendship.” The way Doctor Wilson (the cute one) looks at Dr. House (the curmudgeon) is definitely misleading at times… :-)

    Yan:

I watch it occasionally. Not an obsessed fan like you. :)

Thanks for the clip. Checking it out now.

    Yan:

TOP GUN

    Yan:

Thanks for the tip. I’ll see if I can find that clip. :)

  9. Sammi Says:

People may not like your creation for “BFF”. Your “BFF” implies they would never get married. HOHO~~

    Yan:

Just so you know, I didn’t mean to “imply” anything.

And let’s not get into this whole marriage thing. It always leads to flame wars.
