The Birds and the Bees
上一篇的内容比较难以启齿，所以全部使用英文。发表评论的朋友也都很配合地避开了中文。这种“遮遮掩掩”状不禁让我想起一个短语：the birds and the bees。
不要被字面意思迷惑啊，我要说的不是鸟儿和蜜蜂，而是性教育。摘录一下英文的定义：
A euphemism for sex education, especially when taught informally. For example, It’s time Father told the children about the birds and the bees.
性教育为啥扯到鸟儿和蜜蜂的头上？其实说穿了就是因为“遮遮掩掩”。据说介绍性方面的知识比较尴尬，有些老师或家长就拿鸟儿和蜜蜂“做那事儿”来举例，从而避免赤裸裸地解释人如何性交。
The birds and the bees最初应该起源于1928年Cole Porter的畅销曲Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love)。歌里是这么唱的：
And that’s why birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love
显然，do it是指“做那事儿”。这个委婉语到现在仍然非常流行。就我个人感觉而言，它的使用率跟have sex差不多，比make love要高。
另外，World Wide Words指出，the birds and the bees第一次在媒体上正式亮相是1939年。Freeport Journal Standard报上有这样一段文字：A Frenchman was born sophisticated: he knows about the birds and the bees. （法国人生来就是老练的：他了解性是怎么回事。）
莫非法国的“浪漫”名气就是这么来的？

我msn space上播放的正是这首歌，不过是Ella Fitzgerald唱的，当时确实怀疑过“do it”是这个意思。

偶听过爵士乐女歌手Ella Fitzgerald唱过let’s do it, 当时也在怀疑do it就是指那个事，呵呵，还好猜得没错。

说到birds and bees我倒想起了BEE的另一个说法, a social event where people get together for a competition.
最近看到街边有卖一部译作《蜂王季》的电影,原名就叫Bee Season, 看过介绍, 讲的是spelling bee的故事, 这个bee应该不能做蜜蜂解吧?
