Excercise controlling authority in a household, as in Grandma wears the pants at our house. This idiom, generally applied to women and dating from the mid-1500s, a time when they wore only skirts, equates pants with authoritative and properly masculine role. Originally put as wear the breeches, it remains in use despite current fashions.

我很确定我曾经看过一篇美国大学英语系教授写的文章，说 teacher, driver 之类的词用在姓氏前面，在语法上是毫无问题的。但是，怎么找也找不到了。又但是，的确没有听母语者在日常生活中这样用过。

在英国不是说wear the pants，而是wear the trousers，pants在英国英语里主要是underpants的意思。
Avril Lavigne 有首歌叫”I don’t have to try”. 里面有这样几句 “I’m the one who wear the pants. I wear the pants.” 据说英国的歌迷对此产生了误解，还有人建议把歌词改为”I wear the trousers.”
